Contest Talk: Tee Tee Pegged to Host 2009 Club D'Elegance Contest
Submitted by T. Pratt on Tue, 03/31/2009 - 12:21.
Steppers in the ChiStepper forum have been asking for some fresh contest information, and ChiStepper has learned that Tanya "Tee Tee" Nash of Teach Me To Step will be the woman for the job. The D'Elegance Contest, made popular Darrell Davis and Marguett Coleman nearly a decade ago, has always been a staple in the Chicago Steppers community. In recent years however, the contest has had some difficulty attracting dancers. Tee Tee expressed that she thought Sunshine of Shine Entertainment did a really good job last year, and that she hoped to build on her success by

Exclusive Interview: Tall Rick Weatherspoon
Submitted by T. Pratt on Mon, 03/30/2009 - 12:38.
About two years ago today, I had an interview scheduled with one the hottest up and coming Steppers on the scene, the loud finger popping cat with boat loads of flair, Tall Rick. We talked the day before, set the time up and the next day, Rick was nowhere to be found. It’s one thing to get stood up by a girl, but by a man. Damn! At the time though, ChiStepper.com was like a mine field, and any given day, almost out-of-the-blue, an explosion could go off. I heard through the grapevine that Rick was concerned with how the readers would treat him.

TIP Heads in for a Year
Submitted by T. Pratt on Fri, 03/27/2009 - 11:42.
I wanted to send a shout out to the big homey T.I., a really good dude, who will turn himself in today for what might turn about to be a 1 year and 1 day in prison. I've had the opportunity to hang out with TIP a few times, with the current photo being taken in a studio in Manhattan, alongside Warner Music Group EVP, Kevin Liles and Atlantic Records EVP of Urban Music, Mike Kyser. TIP just released a mix tape entitled, "Gone 'Till November" so if you're a fan of his music, check it out.
Hangin' with Montgomery's Jamie Graham
Submitted by T. Pratt on Thu, 03/26/2009 - 15:36.
I went back to Montgomery recently and caught up with my homey Jamie Graham of the Montgomery Steppers. Jamie gave me a sneak peak at the Embassy Suites Hotel, where he'll host his annual White Party this summer. The venue is gourgeous, with fountains flowing in the lobby and a spacious ballroom for the Steppers.
Exclusive Interview: Legendary DJ Sam Chatman Pt.3
Submitted by T. Pratt on Wed, 03/25/2009 - 15:32.
The third installation of our Interview with the Legendary DJ Sam Chatman discusses the origin of the name Steppin', and how the old school style of Steppin' evolved into what it is that we do today. Check it out!
Sam: Now Macaroni back in that day was a great dancer … Macaroni wasn’t just a dancer, he was a performer. As great [as he was] Macaroni wasn’t even on the top ten, [well] he might have been 7, 8, or 9

ChiStepper Didn't Bite Steppin' B
Submitted by T. Pratt on Mon, 03/23/2009 - 19:42.
A Stepper in L. A. graciously sent me the Steppin' picture that I was supposed to have copied. I can certainly see the resemblance after looking at the picture, but I had a white company based in England design my logo. I went through about 10 revisions to get this logo, and I've posted one of the earlier revisions up top for everyone to review. I liked this logo and it almost won, but the ladies face was too masculine for me.

New ChiStepper Updates
Submitted by T. Pratt on Mon, 03/23/2009 - 16:48.
Hello ChiSteppers! As the site continues to grow, we have made a number of changes to ensure that we're bringing you the latest and the great on "The Nation's Home For REAL Steppers." The first thing that we decided to do was retire ChiStepper's circular logo, in exchange some something a little sleeker and sexier. I hope you like it! Also, make sure you check out the new background look as well.
Old vs. New Skool: Stylistics vs. Jay Z
Submitted by T. Pratt on Sun, 03/22/2009 - 16:23.
Luther Vandross crushed Tee Jay last week, although many who commented seemed to think it was pretty close. This week I had to make it a little harder. I pitted my favorite old school group against my favorite rapper. Jay Z's "Politics As Usual" is off of the classic "Reasonable Doubt" album, but will it be enough to knock of the silky smooth soul singers from Philly, The Stylistics. I haven't even voted yet, because I can't decide. What do you all think?

Mike and Candi are up early discussing the set thrown by Mike and his successful Club set “Men of Standard.” Mike is somewhat bothered by the lack of profit, while Candi cannot reconcile the lack of profits based on the appearance of a successful event.

Buzz Production Review
Submitted by steppinlady2 on Thu, 03/19/2009 - 06:51.
Birthdays are special days and on February 27th, I attended a celebration for Buzz Production's very own Tracey and Pharries at the Marmon Grand ballroom. Tracey looked beautiful in her chic black satin off-the-shoulder skirt-suit and Pharries sported jeans with a black embroidered jacket as he handed out silk white roses to his guests. After having a party just 5 days before, at the same venue, with similar group members, they still managed to pull

Check out part 2 of our exclusive interview with DJ Sam Chatman, as he takes us on a historical ride from the early days of Steppin' to the present day. In this piece, Sam discusses the Dungeon era, and the atmosphere of Steppin' in the early days.
T. Pratt: So, let me ask you this, going back to that era. Is it true that to come to a Steppers Set at the Dungeon or the East of Ryan that you had to be a recognized [Gangbanger/Hustler]?

The State of Steppin' During a Recession
Submitted by Imasteppa on Tue, 03/17/2009 - 02:41.
Surely, we all weren’t naïve enough to think that workshops and national social functions in the Steppin’ community wouldn’t be affected by the plight of our dismal economy. If unemployment rates and gas prices are slowly hiking back up with clothing and food prices rising then surely you would think that our steppin entertainment would suffer as a result of this.
