ChiStepper is digging deep with the ladies on the scene. I asked 5 random questions to a diverse group of ladies and boy was I in for a treat. Here is the 1st round of a series we will call "Ladies Real Talk." I’m sure you’ll enjoy the read as much as I did facilitating the convo!
1st question to the ladies … "What is it about instructors that make ‘Newbies’ fall for them? (feel free to speak from past experience if you have to)." (Laughing)
Quin: Most newbies that actually fall for instructors are caught up in the hype and because they are green they don’t know that it’s routine for him. The okie doke works on em! (Laughing)
Tania: I think for the most part it’s jumping on the bandwagon (literally). It’s like dating the star of the basketball team … gotta have attention!
Manika: They give newbies extra attention and they whisper sweet nothings in their ear!
Phyllis: I think newbies want to ride the coattail of the instructor … or maybe the ‘cock’tail!
Charise: Although I never got caught up, I could see how a newbie could. Their charisma. These instructors are sexy in their own way and they exude confidence. To me, intelligence is sexy! No one has more knowledge about this dance than these instructors.
Deon: I think most newbies fall for anybody as long as they can do a right turn!
Tanya "TeeTee": Fall for or drop the drawers for? ... Charisma, charm mixed with the same things that attract you as individuals.
Hope: These chicks don’t get much DIRECT male attention and praise so they get to class, the instructors are attentive and touching them intimately … BOOM … Blinded by the BS!
Tonya C: I don’t know really but if I would guess it would be being in their presence a lot (i.e. privates) … or some might have that swagger about them (i.e. Maxx, Donnie) or some of the newbies may not be getting that attention at home and fall for them … or some are just desperate!
Uneek: If the instructor is a guy … 9 out of 10 times she’s attracted to him … and he has made a pass at or flirted with her!
Tanya F: I think an instructor that is personable, remembers your name and shows that they would love to work with you is what attracts newbies.
Andrea: Good question, I’ve wondered that myself. I can only assume because they are new, no one has had a chance to give them a heads up. When I started coming out, I had one instructor out right ask me if I wanted to hook up a motel … whatawha … Nigga u a vampire.
2nd Question: "From a woman’s perspective … what makes for a good night steppin?"
Deon: Drinks, my girls, and a few good dances!
Tonya C: A couple of good dances, a drink or two and good music!
Andrea: I no longer go out on the regular so good music and I hate monotony so seeing people I’ve not seen in a while is always a treat.
Uneek: A few great dances, laughs, lots of sweat with no drama! I have way more fun when I do out of town events!
Phyllis: Being in good company of friends, great music, lots of good dances along with lots of laughter!
Manika: Free Drinks, laughter, great conversation and dances!
Quin: A good night of steppin includes nice dances, good music and atmosphere and fun with peeps!
Tanya F: A good night out steppin for me is when I dance till my feet hurt, and I sweat my hair and outfit out!
Charise: Great music! Dancing the night away! A nice venue! And an abundance of men to dance with!
Tanya “TeeTee”: Great Dances! A little flirting and laughs with my fav peeps!
Tania: Drinks and being around a good group of friends that love to have fun!
Hope: Great DJ, positive energy, a comfy shoe you can get yo shit off in and a couple of good dance partners you can roll with!
3rd Question: "Have you ever been stalked or stalked someone on the scene?"
Hope: Kinda had one at the 50! Never been one though …at least not on the set! (Laughing)
Tonya C: Yes … not so much as calling but whenever I saw him out he would find a way to be near me until someone said something to him!
Manika: No I haven’t stalked but I think I would like a stalker … just make sure you are a cute stalker!
Tanya “TeeTee”: Yes I was stalked and yep [I’m] a stalker! (Laughing)
Uneek: Never been stalked on the scene but via FB by a stepper! No I have never stalked anyone! (Laughing)
Tanya F: No stalking or stalkers … so far!
Quin: Never been stalked and damn sure I ain’t stalking none of them fools!
Andrea: Never been stalked, never been a stalker … but nights I would go to 3Gs solo I’d stand in the DJ booth and see a whole lotta stalkin, trickin, touchin going on. And one certain DJ would tell me everyone’s secret. I know a ton of ‘em!
Phyllis: I have never been stalked and I do not have time to stalk anyone!
Charise: Nope … never been stalked nor have I stalked … but I do believe I’ve seen a few out there who are worthy! (Laughing)
4th Question: "If I wasn’t from your city and I came to hang with you … from a woman’s opinion of what a good time out steppin is … where would you send/take me to get it in and why?"
Uneek: Depending on the day of the week. Chi-town has so many options! 3Gs, Platinum 144, The Pines, and the 50 is always a must! Older sets … Marmon Grand and Sweet Georgia Browns.
Charise: We are a growing as opposed to an established (steppin) area. Body and Soul is a small black owned business that offers weekly instruction and monthly sets. Otherwise we would be traveling to Raleigh! We step at Zydeco’s every Thursday night and Fridays at TJ’s Night Life.
Phyllis: Tuesday to the Pines, Thursday to Will’s and if it’s the first Friday A.Fusion, and Saturday to the 50!
Tonya C: I would definitely send you to DJ’s now that Cross has brought it back … main reason would be Cross and the other would be the atmosphere and your guaranteed to get some good dances in!
Tanya F: Klub Karma, Dorchester, 50 Yard Line, 3 Deep Sets and Magestic Gents sets!
Andrea: The 50 Yard Line on Saturday afternoon. I’ve been a handful of times and the atmosphere is so intimate, relaxed and laid back. Not to mention the opportunity to dance with great steppers is unlimited.
Hope: I would send them to the 50 and the Pines. That way they would get to experience a balance of great dances from the whole city!
5th Question: "Does a better dancer make a better lover?"
Uneek: Well as for me … I’ve dated a guy that’s a very good dancer but our relationship was kept behind closed doors! Some of the best s*x ever!!! But he and I didn’t dance on the scene that often! We had MAJOR role plays at home..uf…uf…uf…need a cold shower just from the thought!
Charise: That’s a good one. Honestly, I can’t speak about steppers as I have not had the experience to draw any conclusions. I will say that there is something sexy about a man who can move … his rhythm, intensity, fitness … his swag. Dancing is an art. As artistic and gifted as some of these brothers are on their feet, I think it’s a fair assumption that they are just as talented off!
Manika: I will say no because you can be the best dancer with sexy moves but have a little dickpecker and to me all that dancing, trying to entice someone is a waste. Miss me with that! I will leave you standing there in the bedroom holding ya *ish in your hand!
Tonya C: Don’t know about that because he could be smooth on the floor and a jack rabbit in bed! (Laughing) I don’t think the two coincide!
Tanya “TeeTee”: Hell to the Naw! O_O
Tanya F: Yes, rhythm is important that is why I always wonder how good a white man with no rhythm could be! (Laughing)
Quin: HELL NO!
Phyllis: I think that lovers become better dancers especially when they want to be in the presence of the person that they are interested in.
Hope: I honestly can’t speak to that because contrary to beliefs, rumors, etc … not a soul on the set has un-wrapped this box!
Tania: Hmmmmm … I guess so. Rhythm is needed in both areas.
