“[Pete’s] supposed to have Master’s [Category] so if he want to do that then yes. So if he wants to do that then yeah I’ll sit it down, until they mouth off … now you got to back it, because I did it a few years straight. I got six of them, so I feel like if Drew wants to dance against me in the Trio he got to do that -- you know I mean it’s back to back wins. Cuz I told him you’re really not dancing against nobody. “
T. Pratt: All right, ChiStepper.com here with the Tyk Myn.
Tyk Myn: You dig!
T. Pratt: Tyk it’s probably been about three years since we interviewed you, right?
Tyk Myn: Yeah! [Editors Note: Tyk was interviewed by Tracy Bivens for ChiStepper.com 1 1/2 years ago]
T. Pratt: Man, we got a lot to talk about.
Tyk Myn: Yeah! (Laughing)
T. Pratt: I don’t even know to where start. There are so many things I want to ask you but first off, you’re all over the nation now, right?
Tyk Myn: Yeah, trying to be - correcting and these extended rights. Extended rights and L shapes (laughing) … We go to put the dance back the way it’s supposed to be, you know what I mean? You can’t come up with a new concept. There’s only one way to dribble a basketball, you know what I mean?
T. Pratt: Well, speaking of which, you’ve danced in every category in the World’s Largest that I know off.
Tyk Myn: Yeah!
T. Pratt: And you saw the Original New Skool category this year … Pete is allowing both feet off the floor. What do you think about that?
Tyk Myn: He’s still calling it New School Original? If you call it Original anything that means at least one [foot on the floor], you know what I mean? I got disqualified for taking one [foot] off the floor so now they can take one off. I don’t think you should allow both feet. There should be no flipping. There shouldn’t be any of that.
T. Pratt: What did you think about contest this year?
Tyk Myn: Kirk and Sabrina walked away with all that money, man. It was what it was. They put the best performance down, you know what I mean. People got mad about them doing the “Bop”. I felt – well, [Pete] asked how far could you go back? Back far as you want so that’ll let you know it’s going to be Original regardless. So the original, it came from Bopping.
T. Pratt: Right.
Tyk Myn: So they got out there and bopped on the right music and did their thang. Feo, to me hands down … Nikee and Tori I give the big ups. They’ve froze, my man. Feo … froze him. Candice was just standing there, you know what I mean. He was trying to shake her into the dance but you know what I mean.
T. Pratt: Right.
Tyk Myn: But I told Jaime and I told Feo and ‘em it ain’t going to be about the tricks this year. I heard Carlos [was] mad you know but [he] exalted every movethe year before so it’s like so really what else could [he] have possibly brought new but dance.
T. Pratt: I thought Carlo’s did better in the prelims.
Tyk Myn: Yes, he did!
T. Pratt: But there were a lot of the flips n’ stuff that he did, tricks that he did – that didn’t come off smooth in the contest to me.
Tyk Myn: Right!
T. Pratt: You know, that’s just my opinion. They can definitely get down but [the performance] wasn’t clean.
Tyk Myn: But the best tricks was done by Jerry. Light-skinned Jerry [Harris], you know what I mean? But Cheena’s dress, you know maybe pulled her up out the contest.
T. Pratt: (Laughing)
Tyk Myn: But you know … he didn’t dance either though. I told him you still got to bring something other than those tricks.
T. Pratt: Right!
Tyk Myn: I’m not going to do a trick and if they don’t have a Masters I’m getting in New Skool. I’ve got the Old Skool a few times and I won New Skool but I want to get in it why they there … now I don’t want to hear nothing, you know what I mean.
T. Pratt: Let’s talk about Trio for a minute.
Tyk Myn: Okay!
T. Pratt: Really the modern Trio that they are using. You invented that.
Tyk Myn: Yeah!
T. Pratt: The moving both women at the same time on two different beats.
Tyk Myn: Two different patterns.
T. Pratt: Right! Two different patterns at the same time and I was amazed to see Drew pick it out so well but now Feo is picking it up as well. Do you feel like they acknowledge that you actually created that style?
Tyk Myn: Feo does. He pays me. He forces it on me, you know what I mean. Like, I need this private and I give it to him.
T. Pratt: Right!
Tyk Myn: You know Drew did it the way I did it. I took it, you know what I mean. There’s nothing wrong with taking it. Once you put it out there it’s anybody’s. So big ups to him but still and all, Kirk and ‘em won it. But if it was actually going to be about dancing, yeah he did his thing.
T. Pratt: Do you think you still have enough of what it takes to come back and get that category if you wanted too?
Tyk Myn: It’s just the right partners, you know what I mean. The partners he won with was the ones I picked for him. I wasn’t supposed to be in Trio but Charnice was like “we’re going to do this.” I just wanted original. So you know she wasn’t ready. You know she’s a leader. She ain’t laying side by side with nobody. I don’t care if it’s Danielle, Lola, Tina it ain’t gone happen man so I say, y’all gave Drew the money. He didn’t have to work hard because he didn’t dance that year to me. I think the girls did what they did, but it’s about the paycheck and that’s what I told him. It’s about the check. It’s not about what nobody else saying … you got paid that night and that’s it.
T. Pratt: You coming back?
Tyk Myn: I don’t want nothing but one, you know what I mean but if he allowed me to do all of them then hell yeah!
T. Pratt: Which one you want?
Tyk Myn: I just want the Master’s.
T. Pratt: Okay!
Tyk Myn: [Pete’s] supposed to have Master’s so if he want to do that then yes.
